Balchug Viewpoint Private Apartment: Interview with the architect

On today’s fascinating interior design scene, some projects stand out for their ability to blend different cultures and philosophies in a single, aesthetically unified vision. One perfect example is the Balchug Viewpoint Private Apartment, designed by architect Elena Anikina, who told us about this luxury home’s underlying philosophy.

What is the philosophy that inspires your interior design projects?

This apartment was designed for a high-profile client and its interior design was inspired at the deepest level by the wish to combine the oriental philosophy of harmony with European modern minimalism. The main idea was to create a space that would convey serenity, underline the owner’s status and still be convenient both for daily life and for entertaining guests.

My philosophy is grounded in balance and a respect for space. I focused on purity of forms, the use of natural materials and subdued colours to highlight the location’s depth, silence and serenity. There’s nothing superfluous in the design of these interiors: every feature has a meaning and a function, in line with the principles of Feng Shui, which the client considers fundamental. Everything in the interior has its own sense, meaning and function.

Which feature of this project did you find most exciting?

The most striking thing about this interior is the contrast between the severity of the forms and the gentle elegance of the light and materials. This location creates an impression of prestige, inner strength and refinement, perfect for representing a successful person from China.

The main aspects I found most exciting were:

  • Colours: We opted for elegant, neutral shades to create a mood of calm and respect.
  • Materials: The use of travertine-effect porcelain stoneware, warm wood and gilded metal evokes quality and timelessness, concepts of great importance in Chinese culture.
  • Space: Open-plan rooms, high ceilings and decorative arches add breadth, lightness and nobility to the interior.

What did you most appreciate about Emilgroup?

Emilgroup impressed me most both with the high quality of their products and their meticulous, intelligent design. Every collection reflects immense attention to details and the materials are not only attractive but also extremely durable. It’s particularly enjoyable to work with a brand that brings together style, innovation and reliability, enabling me to put my architectural vision into practice with no restrictions.
