ISSA Resort: interview with the architect

ISSA Resort, in Turda, Romania, is a refined resort where nature, hospitality and architecture merge together in harmony. The project’s ability to transform every room into a unique and distinctive interior earned it an honourable mention at the Emilgroup Project Awards 2025. In this context, the Emilgroup surfaces contribute to defining the identity of every area.

We interviewed architect Larisa Muresan, who oversaw the project, to learn about her design vision and the concept behind the development of ISSA Resort.

1. What was your design vision?

I based my design for this project on the natural surroundings of the resort. I chose warm tones and colour combinations inspired by nature to generate a welcoming and elegant atmosphere. The goal was to create warm and modern yet timeless spaces.

2. How would you describe the project in three words?

I’d say elegant, silent and a place to escape. ISSA Resort is an exclusive and highly sophisticated setting, an intimate haven away from the tumult of everyday life where there is something new to discover behind every corner.

3. What impressed you most about the Emilgroup products?

Emilgroup products are top quality both for their surface effects and their prints, which are incredibly accurate at recreating the authenticity of stone and wood. This makes them the perfect choice for any architect as, in addition to being easy to use, they also permit a wide range of spot-on colour and material combinations.

4. How valuable is this recognition for your work?

This project means a great deal to me and will continue to do so. Receiving an award for our work was wonderful and very significant: it gives us the chance to meet new people, develop future collaborations and present the project to those who decide to come and see it in the flesh.
